Trapt - Clifton Park, NY

On Saturday, October 22, 2005 - I made my way up to Clifton Park, NY to see one of my favorite groups Trapt. It was the worst weather since it was raining cats and dogs (do people even say that anymore) but I had good company - The Sibs (my sister and her boyfriend - who is my best bud's bro). My sister owed me a Trapt concert since we had to leave their set at The Chance in Poughkeepsie last year. From the parts of their set I saw, they were great and I wanted more.

First we Albany to check into our room and then we ran out to the show. Like an ass, I left my camera phone in the room. When we got to Northern Lights, there was a mixed crowd although it was mostly young adults and teens.

The first band on stage was Aphasia. If I remember correctly, the lead singer of Trapt produced their album. As it goes, they were so beyond mediocre. Of course, this is my opinion because many people in the crowd were enjoying it. I felt that their performance was really unpolished and that their music was bland. For instance, the lead singer and bassist were trying to "engage" in conversation to be entertaining ::snore::, then they did a special song "Larger Than Life" by the BSB to the chagrin of the audience (they were joking) plus there was the naked drummer and the stage performance reminded me a weak copy of Story of the Year.

Now a couple of years ago I saw Linkin Park, POD, Hoobastank and Story of the Year. All standout performances. I had never really heard Story of the Year but they were electric. They performed their asses off. Perhaps this is the current "rock" movement but Aphasia seemed to be trying to evoke the same performance. It was not even close as far as I am concerned. At that show, Hoobastank did a boyband song too as a joke perhaps Aphasia was once again trying to capture that reaction in their performance. Well, as far as I was concerned - it has been done and better.

Anyways, back to the show... Blindside seemed like they were good. I can't say I can remember. It wasn't their fault - I was thirsty and hot so I sat down. I really wanted to save my energy for Trapt. In the process of waiting, I went to the merch stand and they were selling the groups cds with the chance of meeting the bands after their set. They wanted $20 for Trapt. I already had the CD; I brought on the first day of release. I opted out since I already had the cd.

Once Trapt came on, I was revitalized. They were great! Not only do I enjoy Chris Brown's vocals and lyrics, the rest of the band - Monty, Simon and Pete are excellent musicians. They really make beautiful music together. I can't remember what they opened with but I do remember that they did all the songs I really wanted to hear: New Beginning, Lost Realist, Waiting, Stand Up and all their hits. It was great when everyone sang along with Echo.

Needless to say, once they started their first song I brought the new CD because I had to meet them. I really didnt want to be disappointed but they seemed really nice! They really seem to have a genuine appreciation and like for their fans. I was just pissed that I left my friggin camera phone in the room! ARGH!!! At least I have my autographed CD as a memory!!

They were great and I can't wait to see them again! Now, if they can make it to NYC... I did mention this to Chris Brown but he was tired I guess because he was like "yeah..." Sayreville and Atlantic City, NJ is a little work for me...
